Advertising and Consumer Choice

Epsilon provides marketers the tools to bring relevant and targeted offers to consumers. As a consumer, you have choices that govern how Epsilon will handle your personal information and we believe in giving you the ability to opt-out of any advertising that we enable. You can choose not to receive targeted advertising by following the steps below. Opting-out of Epsilon services will stop the delivery of some targeted advertising, but will not eliminate all targeted offers. Only you can decide what works best for you.

Opting-Out of Email

Epsilon Corporate Communications

You may opt-out of Epsilon corporate communications at any time by using the unsubscribe mechanism within the email you receive, or by clicking here to Opt-Out. You will still receive transactional email, such as registration confirmation, product updates and responses to direct requests you have made.

Email from Clients of Epsilon
Epsilon is an opt-in email service provider. To perform the email services on behalf of our clients, our clients provide their customer email addresses to us, and we deploy emails on their behalf. Epsilon does not in any way own this data and is therefore unable and unauthorized to remove you from a client's email list. If you are a customer of an Epsilon client and would like to be removed from a client's email list, you may use the unsubscribe mechanism within the email you receive, or you may contact the client directly and request that your email be removed. Please be aware that you may do business with several companies that are clients of Epsilon and you must contact each to be removed from their email lists.

Epsilon in no way sells or shares your email address with any company without your consent.

Online Targeted Advertising

As you browse the internet, you may see advertisements on the web pages you visit. Epsilon delivers, and works with advertising partners to enable the delivery of, relevant messages to the right consumers, while protecting consumer privacy and offering choices about participating in such activities. This is called Targeted Advertising and may be based on a variety of factors, such as: web sites you visit, perceived interests, and demographic information. Targeted advertising does not result in you seeing more ads, rather the ads you see will be more relevant to you.

Epsilon may utilize data elements from our Abacus Cooperative Database, Epsilon Compiled File Database and Shopper's Voice database to enable the presentation of the right offer to the appropriate consumer.

Epsilon's Involvement in Targeted Advertising:
Epsilon may display an Epsilon branded ad to you based on your perceived interests. Epsilon also assists our clients in displaying targeted ads and helps advertisers display ads that are more relevant to you. You may receive an ad from Epsilon or an Epsilon advertising partner because your perceived interests seem to match the ad's target audience.

Epsilon also engages in a form of targeted advertising called Retargeting, and we also assist our clients with facilitating Retargeting. Retargeting is a method of re-engaging consumers with web display ads who previously opened an email (email retargeting) or re-engaging consumers with web display ads based on a consumer's website visit (site retargeting).

To facilitate these various targeted advertising efforts, Epsilon and our third party service providers utilize cookies.

Cookies:
Cookies are small text files that are stored by your web browser and store data to make your browsing experience easier and faster. Epsilon does not use cookies that collect or store any personally identifiable information, they only store anonymous data, such as your site behavior, browser information and your perceived interests. Cookies are the technology that enable us and our advertising partners to display relevant ads to you.

  • When you visit websites which are partners of Epsilon and you provide personal information to that website, such as your name and address, this information may be sent to Epsilon. If Epsilon has demographic and lifestyle information about you in our databases, we may provide this information to the registration site. Epsilon (or our third party service providers) may set anonymous third party cookies on your browser to display relevant ads to you. Again, no personally identifiable information is collected or stored in these cookies. We may periodically refresh this information from our databases to assure it remains current.
  • Email Retargeting: Epsilon, or our partner companies, may place a cookie within an email message that is sent from Epsilon or our partner companies. This cookie enables Epsilon or our partner companies to later display an ad to you if you have opened the email. Cookies allow us to know if you have received and opened the email. If you have opened the email, cookies will enable us and our partners to display a relevant ad to you.
  • Site Retargeting: Epsilon, or our partner companies, may place a cookie on a website registration page (e.g. an Epsilon registration page or a partner registration page). This cookie enables Epsilon or our partner companies to later display a relevant ad to you as you browse the internet based on your perceived interests.

As part of the targeted ads you may receive, we partner with companies to evaluate your interactions with our web based and email advertisements to measure the effectiveness of the advertising. Certain non-personally identifiable information may be collected and shared with these partners, including what ad you received and when, and whether you clicked on the ad.

Your Choices:
You may opt–out of online targeted advertising from Epsilon and our partners by clicking on the Advertising Option Icon in the ads you receive. The Icon will appear as a small triangle with the letter "i" in the middle and may be accompanied by text such as "AdChoices". It will be located around the perimeter of the ad. Simply click directly on this Icon and proceed to the opt-out link or preference setting link. Once directed to the opt-out page or preference setting page, you may immediately opt-out of future targeted advertising from Epsilon and our partners. If you have any questions concerning this opt-out, you can always contact us at privacy@epsilon.com.

To facilitate an opt-out, an opt-out cookie will automatically be placed on your computer to block further targeted advertising from Epsilon. If you ever delete this opt-out cookie, clear your cookies, utilize a new browser or purchase a new computer, your opt-out preference will not be maintained. You will need to again opt-out through the Icon in the ad. It is only when the opt-out cookie is present and can be read on your browser that we can know you decided not to participate in targeted advertising.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Opting-out of ads from Epsilon will only cease ads that originate with Epsilon. You must opt-out of other company targeting methods to stop others from targeting you. Advertisers may use several companies to serve the same ads, therefore you may continue to see the same ads, though they will not have originated from Epsilon.
  • After you opt-out, you will still see the same number of ads as before, but you will likely find them less relevant.

Compliance with the Digital Advertising Alliance:
Epsilon utilizes the Evidon assurance platform to comply with the cross-industry Self-Regulatory Program for Online Behavioral Advertising as managed by the Digital Advertising Alliance (www.aboutads.info). Epsilon supports deployment of the Advertising Option icon, in partnership with Evidon, to help consumers understand how their data is being used and provide choices to consumers that want more control.

Direct Mail Advertising

Epsilon respects your choice not to receive direct mail advertising and below are the methods to opt-out of direct mail.

Opting-Out of all Direct Mail Advertising:
The most effective way to receive less advertising mail at home is to use the Direct Marketing Association's (DMA's) Mail Preference Service and the Canadian Marketing Association's (CMA's) Do Not Contact Service. Through both services, you can choose to stop all future direct mail entirely. As a DMA and CMA member, Epsilon subscribes to and suppresses any name and address on the DMA's Mail Preference Service file and CMA's Do Not Contact Service file from its direct mail marketing lists.

US Consumers: If you would like to opt-out of direct mail advertising please visit DMAChoice.org.

Canadian Consumers: If you would like to opt-out of direct mail advertising please visit the CMA Do Not Contact Service.

Abacus Cooperative Database:
The Abacus Cooperative Database is an Epsilon database in which your name and address may be listed. Members of the Abacus Cooperative (mostly catalog and retail companies) contribute information about their customers in exchange for information about prospective customers that may be interested in their products. Your name may be listed in the Abacus Cooperative Database as a result of your relationship with an Abacus member. If you choose to opt-out of the Abacus database, you will no longer receive mailings from companies as a prospect customer. You will however continue to receive direct mail from those companies with which you have transacted business.

You may opt-out of the Abacus Cooperative Database in the following ways:

This database is compiled from several public and proprietary sources (such as property deeds), self-reported responses and transactional data.
