Epsilonians battle for victory at the Analytics Hackathon ’22

As we wrapped up the annual Epsilon India Analytics Hackathon this October, I was reminded of something that basketball legend Michael Jordan once said, ‘Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.’

Conducted by the India Analytics Center of Excellence (ACOE), a community of analytics and data science professionals from different practice areas, the analytics Hackathon is a great platform for teams to come together to ideate, develop solutions to key business problems, upskill and network.

Last month, around 130 Epsilonians came together to form 33 teams to battle it out in a three-week long hackathon. The Analytics Hackathon involves solving an analytical problem using machine learning techniques. This year, the problem statement was aimed at predicting the purchase of a product that belonged to a specific department. The competition was hosted on Kaggle, a platform for data scientists and machine learning engineers to learn, network and solve complex data problems.

This hackathon also welcomed members from non-analytics disciplines, such as HR, Production Support, Engineering, Marketing, Design and Infrastructure. Having these types of talent involved encourages collaboration and networking between members of the analytics and non-analytic communities in Epsilon.

With all teams displaying a strong competitive spirit throughout the hackathon, the race to the finish line was as challenging as it could get. Participants were pushed to think out of the box and harness their collective analytics capabilities to develop unique solutions.

It was a tie between Team Pulsefire (Balram M Mirani and Debashree Sahu) and Team DS Auto Analytics (Satyam Satyajeet, Rakesh Kumar and Mularidhar R) for first place. Team Artificial Minds (Prateek Yadav, Ujjwal Kumar, Vipin Sharma and Natraj Patil) was declared runner-up.

One of the biggest highlights from the event was the teamwork and collaboration that were on display throughout the hackathon - be it bringing together their expertise to develop solutions to business problems, or inspiring each other to get their creative juices flowing, and even pivoting when the situation required. And while having plenty of fun while at it!

All this is a result of a culture that promotes innovation, creativity, empathy and the space to learn from our challenges and using it to build our success story.
